Patrick R.

Retired Coast Guard helicopter pilot with a passion for assisting people in times of
need.
Why This Work Matters
I have always helped people - during my military career & in my personal life.
On culturally responsive care: Knowing & learning from your audience. Being an empathic
person who strives to learn and discern what people need in challenging situations.
Connection to Altadena
A community that works together, especially when big challenges arrive - like what the
devastating fires brought. Resilience & community spirit.
A Defining Moment
I've been involved in rescuing numerous people from immediately bad situations as a CG
helicopter pilot and I have seen how community organizations are key in helping people get
back on their feet.
Vision for the Future
My hope for Altadena: See the community members back to living joyous lives with safe,
secure, and environmentally sustainable housing.
What I hope families feel: Hope and follow through to meet their needs.
Bringing to the Work
Strengths: 22+ years as a military officer & aviator (Army and Coast Guard), so have worked
well with people of all demographics & age groups in all kinds of situations.
On collaboration: A way to continue to serve a community within my relatively new SoCal
community.
Beyond the Work
What brings me joy: All electric RVing, watching MLB & NFL (Seattle Mariners & Seahawks),
hiking with my wife.
Favorite genres: Thriller
When not volunteering: RVing (travel trailer excursions - pulled via all-electric Bolt EUV - with
my wife). Also volunteer & work with various organizations (Plug in America, Humane Society,
and County Elections office).
Fun fact: After my college baseball career, I tried out for the Seattle Mariners. Didn't make it so
decided to become a military helicopter pilot & flight instructor.
Words I live by: ""Don't React, Respond" - great lyrics from the Pearl Jam song "React, Respond"
